What is kept and what is not
This tool focuses on the text. Words and paragraphs are extracted into an editable document, but the original formatting — fonts, colours, columns, tables, images and exact layout — is not preserved. Think of it as a fast way to get the words out, after which you apply your own styling.

A worked example
A small charity has its constitution only as a fixed file from years ago. Converting it gives the secretary all the clauses as editable text. She pastes them into the charity's Word template, updates two clauses and the address, and has a fresh version in minutes instead of retyping 15 sheets.
Tidying the result
- Apply your own heading styles so the structure is clear.
- Remove extra line breaks that appear inside paragraphs.
- Rebuild any tables you need using Word's table tools.
- Run the spell checker to catch characters that did not extract cleanly.
Scanned documents
A scan contains pictures of words rather than real text, so there is nothing for the tool to extract. Such files need OCR (text recognition) software first.
