About this tool
Look up the public registration record of any web address: the registrar, important dates, status codes and nameservers.
How to use it

What the record usually includes
- Registrar – the company the name was registered through.
- Created, updated and expiry dates – handy for renewals and due diligence.
- Status codes – such as clientTransferProhibited, which shows the name is locked against transfers.
- Nameservers – which DNS provider or host it currently uses.

Privacy and redaction
Since GDPR, most records hide the owner's name, email and address, showing privacy-service details instead. Contact the owner through the registrar's relay form if you need to reach them.
Limitations
Detail varies by extension and registrar, and some fields may be missing or delayed. A missing record does not always mean the name is available — confirm with a registrar before trying to buy it.
A worked example
A web developer takes over a client's site but nobody knows where the name is registered. The lookup shows the registrar and that the name expires in 18 days. The client can log in to that registrar, renew in time and unlock it for a transfer.
Understanding status codes
- clientTransferProhibited – locked against transfers; normal and recommended.
- clientHold / serverHold – the name is suspended and will not resolve, often due to unpaid renewal or abuse.
- pendingDelete – the name is about to be released.
- redemptionPeriod – expired, but the owner can still recover it for a fee.
Renewal tips
- Turn on auto-renew at your registrar.
- Keep the account email up to date so reminders reach you.
- Consider renewing for several years for important names.
Contacting an owner
Because personal details are usually redacted, use the registrar's contact form or the anonymised relay email shown in the record. Brokers can also approach owners for you.

Step by step: preparing a transfer to a new registrar
- Check the status codes; if the name is locked, unlock it at the current registrar.
- Make sure the expiry date is not within a few days.
- Request the transfer authorisation code (EPP code).
- Start the transfer at the new registrar and approve the confirmation email.
Most transfers complete within five days and usually add a year to the registration.
